Susan shares, “Touro is known as the hospital ‘where babies come from.’ As the largest birthing hospital in New Orleans and the second largest delivering hospital in the state of Louisiana, it is important to provide our mothers and babies with evidence-based care. The BFHI is not only a breastfeeding initiative. It encompasses all aspects of maternal and newborn care that will help us reach the goals and objectives of Healthy People 2020.”
Women’s Services and the Family Birthing Center are main service lines at Touro. Since Susan started working for Touro in July 2015, she has played a hands-on role supporting staff with the changes needed to implement the Ten Steps to Successful Breastfeeding, such as skin-to-skin and rooming-in. Her support stems from an understanding in the “importance of breastfeeding to both the mother and the baby” and her desire for Touro to “serve as a leader in breastfeeding education and support.”
Susan is an accomplished senior health care executive with more than 30 years of experience. She has
extensive experience managing hospitals and health care operations in a variety of capacities, including president and chief executive officer, and chief operating officer. In addition to her CEO role at Touro, she has served in leadership positions at Valley Regional Medical Center, Corpus Christi Medical Center, and Tulane University and Hospital. She earned a bachelor’s degree in business with a concentration in marketing from Corpus Christi State University and received a master of business administration from Texas A&M University in Corpus Christi.
Congratulations, Susan! To have a hospital President and CEO embrace the BFHI makes a world of difference!
